Topical vitamin B3 – reverse your skin clock

Vitamin B3 (niacinamide), one of the essential vitamins for normal body function, also provides numerous benefits to our skin when applied topically. There have been lots of studies to indicate its multifunctional benefits in anti-aging. Its multifunction includes reducing the appearance of dark spots, red blotchiness, skin yellowing and improving elasticity and reducing wrinkles.

Niacinamide has been shown in multiple clinical studies that it helps to improve in the appearance of aging skin including reducing hyperpigmentation and red blotchiness. It also demonstrated to be effective in reducing the inflammation caused by acne.


Here are some of the clinical studies:

A 12-week study involved 50 females in applied 5% niacinamide to face twice daily for 12 weeks. Results indicated a variety of significant improvement effects in reducing fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmented spots, red blotchiness, skin yellowing and improvement in elasticity.

Another 8-week study tested 4% niacinamde application on wrinkles around eye areas showed marked improvement in wrinkle reduction.

An 8-week study of niacinamide 4% gel demonstrated comparable efficacy to 1% clindamycin in the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Niacinamide (vitamin B3) regulates cell metabolism and regeneration. Clinical study involving niacinamide at 5% strength has been shown to produce anti-aging effect. It is also well tolerated without stinging sensation. If you plan to add vitamin B3 into your skincare routine, look for products with clinical strength of 5%.
